Tino's Pizza Cafe

Originally from Taiwan, Tino's is a casual Italian dining concept which specializes in hand-tossed pizzas crafted with a contemporary spin on traditional flavours. One can therefore expect light, fluffy crusts philosophized with somewhat exotic toppings - these being served on flat wooden pans lined with parchment paper. Two different size options associated with each creation are made available for ordering in most instances: 9" Neopolitan (6 slices) and 12" Roman (8 slices). A small range of finger foods, baked pasta / rice dishes and desserts round up the modest menu witnessed.

What knocked our socks off:

The truffle spaghetti with cream sauce was quite delightful to say the least. One rather generous portion of gently firm pasta strings soaked in a swath of buttery goodness with grated cheese, onions and mushrooms heaped upon is made all the more aromatic with a slight drizzle of truffle oil. Next, we dug into the lamb abruzzo pizza which featured a garlicky base (coated with chewy mozzarella), marinated grilled lamb slices and a sprinkle of herbs. Oh yes yummy and fulfilling indeed.

Can durian and cheese ever go together properly? Our skeptical selves decided to find out first hand, as we took a gamble on the Mao Shan Wang durian pizza. We came away pleasantly surprised; the savory-sweet combination actually worked really well. Eaten piping hot, the creamy durian meat effused a perfumed scent which blended magnificently with warm, sticky webs of cheese. Definitely recommended, however be a tad careful not to overindulge or risk ending up with a sore throat.

What didn't work out:

The golden sunkist dessert was an undecided mess of excessively thick pastry-like folds painted with what seemed to be Nutella hazelnut spread and sparingly laced with orange slices presumably of the Sunkist variant (peel left intact yucks). Tiny addendum: expect the taste of dough to linger in the mouth for a while after you are done eating.

Other items sampled but turned out to be non-events:

Tino's Signature Pizza (N-$15.90 , R-$21.90)
