Burnt Cones

Some things taste better when they are faintly singed - or at least ice cream cones do, as Burnt Cones' founders Xavier Chng and Miles Thng tumbled to aleatorily during one particular eons-ago kitchen trial (hence the afflatus behind that seemingly cockamamie name for their dessert cafe chain). Opened 1 December 2020, Burnt Cones whomps up gelati/sorbets, buttermilk waffles, specialty coffees, even all-day breakfast platters (available though at selected outlets); we blew in on its flagship Sunset Way store seeking sugared succour, perhaps with a wee shot of caffeine.

What knocked our socks off:

The artfully tousled, "noveau luxe" Coffee Toffee Buttermilk Waffle was an utopia unto itself: aureate, crispy planet W stippled by twills of Dulce de Leche deffo got the groove going, this abreast aromatically blitzkrieged cone bits and falstaffian orbs of scrummy ice creams (85% dark chocolate + vanilla milk). Power to the flower yo.

Coffee Toffee Buttermilk Waffle ($25)

Other items sampled but turned out to be non-events:

Single Scoop of Ube ($5)

Latte 5 Oz ($5)

Note: Prices subject to change without prior notice. Kindly clarify with outlet before visiting or ordering.

Hvala

Japanese teahouse cum dessert parlour Hvala (meaning "thank you" in Croatian) is a jarring oxymoron - the preeminent motivation behind that rather sui generis, though incongruous name being founders Benmin Chai and Lynette Yong particularly yearned to reify their propinquitous affection for, gee, Croatia after previously holidaying there together.......

Kooks Creamery

Singapore's ice cream scene is becoming de trop, with scads of geletarias having already effloresced ass-to-elbow everywhere here, this continuing undiminished even till date. So how does someone - anyone - who possess serious skin in the game of cones avoid ultimately ending up another unheeded minnow and keep customers keen as mustard, always making them circling back for more?......

Butterspace

Originally an online bakery business that launched only last year, Butterspace aspires to bigger things seemingly hastily, having already opened its first physical outlet on 21 June. Beyond hawking kitschy cookies, brownies, blah blah blah, this neo-ascetic hole in the wall doubles as ice cream parlour - folks may thus also momentarily licka'way the relentless tropical heat......
